Glass blasting of metal
What is glass blasting?
Glass bead blasting is used whenever a surface needs to be cleaned or smoothed without aggressively interfering with the material. Unlike hard abrasives, glass shot works more gently, leaving no deep risks and not altering the geometry of the product.
The method is suitable for parts where surface cleanliness, uniform texture, and the absence of foreign inclusions are important. This is especially true for stainless steel and non-ferrous metals, where contamination with iron particles is undesirable.
How the technology works
The abrasive is processed under air pressure: the fine glass microbeads are evenly applied to the metal surface. Thanks to the rounded shape of the abrasive, contact is made without aggressive material removal.
The glass shot is chemically neutral and does not cause corrosion. Pressure parameters and fraction are selected depending on the task – from light cleaning to the formation of a uniform matte texture.
What effect does the customer get?
Glass-blasting allows:
– remove scale and traces of machining;
– eliminate discoloration after welding;
– level the surface without deep scratches;
– to get a uniform matting;
– prepare the part for further coating.
This process removes a minimal layer of metal, which is important for products with precise tolerances.
What materials do you work with?
The method is used for stainless steel, aluminum and its alloys, copper, bronze, titanium and other non-ferrous metals. The glass bead fraction is determined individually, taking into account the surface condition and finish requirements.
Where glass blasting is used
It is used as a final step for parts that need to look neat and shiny. It is also used before painting or applying protective coatings, to clean welds, castings and molds.
The method allows you to restore the appearance of the metal without radical interference with the structure of the material.
Performing work in Criox
Criox performs glass bead blasting for single items and serial batches. We customize the mode for a specific metal and task to achieve a uniform result without wasting material.
If you need to clean or prepare metal parts without aggressive abrasives, send us the product parameters or a photo of the surface. After evaluation, we will offer the optimal mode and agree on the terms of execution.
